Probabilistic NPV spreadsheet question: how do I make my own button?
- first you need to see the "control toolbox" icons in the toolbar:
view > toolbars > control toolbox
- now you should see some new icons:
click the one that has a blue triangle on it (Design Mode)
click the one with the single rectangle on it (Command Button)
click anywhere on your spreadsheet to create the new button
- once you have the button, you need to assign a macro to it:
if you are still in design mode you can double click on it
- you should now be in the Microsoft Visual Basic editor. You can go to my spreadsheet,
get into design mode, and double click my "run one hundred" button. Feel free to
copy and paste my macro into the VB editor for yours, but you will have to change
it so that it works for your worksheet. It may take some messing around to get it
to work, but the basic idea of the macro is super-simple: copy the quantities of interest
(e.g., 10 years worth of revenues and costs), paste them, refresh the random numbers and
update the location of the cell where you want the next set of numbers pasted. Then
the plot is nothing more than a scatterplot of all the pasted numbers.
As always, try it out, and ask if you have more questions.
